Movin' on up.
I wouldnt DJ in a mainstream club even if they did pay £20K but I keep thinking I must play for nothing at one of the underground events sometime as they are still buzzing:thumbsup: Keep the day job and bang some tunes out now and then to people who will appreciate them I say..

That would be a treat for All Steve! How about you and Tony as a featured double bill?

I'll play the organ at the interval and Butty can sell the ices creams!

Lifes too short to be giving up good things! fair enough if it wasnt something you got anything out of anymore!" but clearly the fact that you are having serious doubts says it all.........your passion and love of the music will always be there its never leaves you! ive been into it for a very long time but only over the last 12 month have i been buying my own records and learning to mix....i get so much from it - just the feel of having a record of my very own that i can play whenever i like makes me feel top of the world - no matter what my mood i have a record that will fit the bill..........we go thro life losing a lot and making a lot of sacrifices and we get an awful lot of crap thrown at us.......its seems a bit daft doesnt it really - music and records is a way of life that we are all part of - it can be a release too and a stress sometimes ;) but when its part and parcel of whom you are then theres always goin to be a void when its not there no more!

I lost my mother a couple of yrs ago the my lil dog the yr after that - theres now a void that cant possibly be filled - because ive lost something i love very much..... the first thing i turn to is my music its always there for me and its always part of me.... its the closest thing to filling that void because its part of who i am.... I sincerely hope you reconsider Tony - its because of people like you who have inspired people like me! Itll never leave you ;)

sorry for the essey im having a moment :$

fuckin hell mate really touched my heart this 1
ther's allready been times since i done my last set the im just burning to get back onj osa and spin some tunes but dont want to look like a nob head coz i said i'd give up
your right about the void aswell, as the time draws nearer for the in my house doo ive been havin mad dreams about it (weird i know) but its all i can think about
but thanks again mate, really touching post

As John Miles says it:

Music is my first love and it will be last, music of the future and music of the past. To live without my music, would be impossible to do...In this world of trouble, my music pulls me through...

Tony, no one will think you are a dick for wanting to hook up ya headphones again, Music is like a drug. Its needed :D ppl on here know how addictive it is, buying vinyl, mixing and everything else that comes with it...Its a way of life...youve been doing it for years, its what you are, if you take it away, what else do you have?

Dont take that the wrong way when I ask what else have you got, what I mean is say a stamp collector whos been doing it since he could remember decides to jack it in, what else will he do, what else does he know, what else can he put his love and energies in to??? Nothing cos theres nowt else worth doing cos hes jacked his only thing he loves doing...

Am not gonna go into any detail beacause I don't know your background, am much younger than you etc :).....
But it's a blatant mistake :) , I mean... what else are you gonna do:confused:
Why 'give-up' anything? If you loose interest in something, then the usuall remidy is to stop doing it, get rid of it, whatever..
But as far as collecting records (something personnal and irreplacable), at most you shud put it on hold rather than stop / sell up.
Once there gone..THERE GONE :| :S

Im pretty much gonna repeat what everyone else has said really, its obvious its something you love, its been part of your life for probably as long as you can remember. In my opinion theres no need to completely give and sell up, you'll only be depriving yourself of something you enjoy so so much, and why do that. We only had to see your face at In my house to guess you got a massive kick out of playing your tunes. :D Im glad your reconsidering , i was shocked when i heard you were packin up as from the vibes i got from you on osa radio, in my house etc you loved it. :king:

You are more than welcome to play on the radio any time tony, but you already know this ;) ...its been great havin you around. :D

Tony,

ive met u only a couple of times mate, your a sound guy mate. When you made your decision a few weeks back i was like no way how can someone do that after such a long time.I dont know your personal circumstances so you had obviousley thought long and hard what you wanted to do.Myself on two or three occassions had threatened myself about selling my tunes and decks and turning my back on the scene, that was the way i was feeling at the time, very depressed about life and numerous shit nights id been having, always trying to chase that buzz of when i first went out early nineties.Since ive packed in the drugs im been in to the scene more than ever, met some top people along the way,off this site and others and had a residency at an old skool night in Liverpool which i appreciate being able to have done.My music,my dex and my tunes are a big part of my life and they will never leave me, i ahve spent to much time effort and money to turn my back on it now no matter how bad things get, hope this has been of some help and i hope you take everyones comments on board and make the decision you fell is right for you and the people around you.

Best of luck for the future

Fab pic Steve

Reuniting with old friends, meeting up with new ones, people playing tunes you don't hear played out. Thats where its at.

You were a big big influence, as with Steve, to so many people including me.

DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

.....and seriously think about that Kaos reunion please!!!?...:hubba: :hubba: :hubba: ;)

I gave up any aspirations of being a DJ in 90, given that I couldn't beat match even the simplest of tunes. Lucky for everyone I never changed my mind on that.
I gave up clubbing at the end of 91. But then went out intermittently from 95 on. Back to once a month now.
I sold all my records around 98 as I was absolutely flat broke and needed funds to finish my degree. I miss them in terms of any possession. However I've now got more cd's and mp3s than I ever could have wished for. And tbh they never sounded as good at home as they do out in a club.

I've changed my mind on a few things during my life; and I was always content that I was making the right choice for me. And thats all thats important. What people think of your choice, can be taken in to consideration, but at the end of the day it has to be right for you.

Having said that don't do it :D

thanks for the comments mate

good luck in all that your doing mate and hope it all goe's well and you settle in ok

Many thanks fella much appreciated, just have a good old think about what you wanna do, worlds ya oyster mate as a lot of peeps respect the DJ you are and there are thousands that would love to be in your shoes. Me being 1 of them.

You dont have to be full on with it thats the best part, fill the radio now and again, as for "In My House" just guest spot when u feel like it, you can always dip in and out, you done the hard bit in the last 10-15yrs now its your time to take it ez,

all in all think about what you wanna do over a brew and see where you end up. Whateva that is we all understand and respect ya decsion.

Dan

dont give up

wow mate twilight zone
glad someone remembers that night, really loved playin there and always got a good reception when i did, can still remember playin venus aswell
lots of people are making lots of sence with the quotes & they are very well recieved.
its something i'm really gonna have to ponder
its esier not to give up than it is to & could i live with it if i did ?

im sure loads of other people in Liverpool remember your amazing sets from back then tony :)
if youve still got something to give then stick with it , i think its great that people like yourself from back in day still have a passion for it , personally for me and alot of other clubbers its been great having djs on like steve proctor , andy carroll ect who inspired a generation and can still rock a crowd 15 years on , and another thing you would be made to feel more than welcome if you where to play a TWILIGHT ZONE set at one of my nights sometime in Liverpool ? ;)

I think it's very fair to say Tony's decision is not about the money. More about if he should carry on playing for fun or devote all his time to something else.

By the way, did you DJ under the name Daygo as I am not familiar with the name?
Well done on been able to make a good living from it! The most I ever got paid was £75 a night back in 95! Still I just enjoyed playing to anyone!

As for those 35+ that are doing it for the money. . . Well it's a living!
However, I share your sentiments that it's sad if that's the only reason they do it.

Tony is not in this bracket, it's about whether he should keep his decks, tunes and play for fun now and again.
