think ive made a seriously big mistake by hanging up my dj boots
ever since i decided to quit it i can think of nothing else
music is built into my fabric but i thought i would be easy to walk away and travel down other paths, but the pull of music is rippin my mind apart and telling me not to go

I guess with your early career being based heavily around music and the scene in general, music will, as it does alot of people on this site, make up a large of of who you are. I love music, but have had times in my likfe where i've thought i'm not interested any more and thought about selling up. I soon found it was down to my state of mind at that time and would definitely have seriously regretted selling up. I did think it was a bold decision for you to make having just joined OSA and getting amongst like minded people..playing at the events etc. Get round your nephews...distract him and sneak all you gear and records back. Not Been through that decision mate, but did stop going clubbing for ages .. . not intentionally it just happened. Kept my decks and records and would never sell them, just stopped spending on Vinyl.

However, my love of the times I had in Manchester in the Early 90's will never disappear and as such they will mean as much to me as the Beatle's mean to our parents.

I would never turn my back on my past unless totally ashamed of it!
Ed is probably correct that you can convince yourself at a given point that you need to move on. You can move without severing all ties to the past.

As a history student I know you can only predict the future by looking to the past. The future is a product of the past and It's part of your DNA chap.

It's the itch you can't shift. That should tell you everything!!

it was probably a state of mind when i decided to give it up rather than a desire

in a similar text or vein, when i was younger i loved fishing. i did it day after day with my friends and loved every moment. as time went on i ended up selling all my gear cheap to fund a motorcross bike, lost intrest in that and sold it. years later i borowed my mates fishing gear, went fishing, and low and behold got hooked again, spending loads of my wonga to get myself afloat again...................

even though i was young when i sold up, i learned the lesson. that if you have love and passion for something that will never ever leave your heart, never sell up or try to move on........it remains in ones self and it will never ever go away

Ideals ya' maybe had bout' life etc, and needed to reach this point in yer' life to really question one's self & differentiate what it all actually means to ya!!!...It's in your DNA...Ya've made a huge contribution to music n' its scene and ppl will be listenin' to Tony Ross's backlog for long time....but meantime giv' us/we want mooooooooooore, Yer Gud At It!!!!!!!...

IMO dont do it mate i packed it all in 1995 sold my record shop , sold my decks ,90% of my records , thought id had enough of it all , was a Terrible Terrible misitake :$ felt like i was in some kind mad void went cold turkey ect , fortunatley i managed to come to my senses and turn it around and im so glad i did as it now its my life again , and it must be worse for someone like yourself who has given so much to the early scene back in the day and who has a real love of all things house /dance it becomes part of your DNA it will "never" leave you its a bit like THE FORCE....

PS your guest dj spots in the 1st dance club i went to THE TWIGLIGHT ZONE in Liverpool 1989/90
before the quad properly took off helped musically inspire me to become the person i am now... you was the 1st dj i heard drop Don Pablos Animal's - Venus , and thats a memory i still have of that club whenever i hear it today.

About autumn 95 I was starting to seriously loose the plot with the amount of clubbing i was doing
I had come out of the forces in May 95 and just went on a complete bender for about 6 months.
When i decided to behave myself, get a job and sort my life out i stepped away from everything to do with 'raving'. I sold my decks, most my records were round a mates house and all i had was 1 box full in the attic.
About 3 or 4 years later i had a look through that box of records and what i saw was Kinetic - Golden Girls, Lee Marrow - Do You Want Me, Mental Cube - Q, M&M - Please Dont Stand In My Way...........I went and bought a pair of Technics and a little Kam 2 channel mixer that weekend and did the first mix tape i'd done since 95.oooooohhhhhhh, it was like coming home after 5 years away somewhere or summat.lol to hear the tunes again and start pulling off mixes was such a buzz.
Wish I'd never sold my gear and to be honest i think i'll still have em set up in a little room wHen i'm a grandad.

If your regretting packing up Tony then it's simple.......DONT !
evn if you seriously downsize your collection or summat, dont do it, it's who you are, its what your made of and you will definately miss it.

i mean...ffs, what tunes are ya gonna sing in the shower.....what cd are u gonna have in ur car........music is a part of everything in everyday life and u cant just walk away from it

Lifes too short to be giving up good things! fair enough if it wasnt something you got anything out of anymore!" but clearly the fact that you are having serious doubts says it all.........your passion and love of the music will always be there its never leaves you! ive been into it for a very long time but only over the last 12 month have i been buying my own records and learning to mix....i get so much from it - just the feel of having a record of my very own that i can play whenever i like makes me feel top of the world - no matter what my mood i have a record that will fit the bill..........we go thro life losing a lot and making a lot of sacrifices and we get an awful lot of crap thrown at us.......its seems a bit daft doesnt it really - music and records is a way of life that we are all part of - it can be a release too and a stress sometimes but when its part and parcel of whom you are then theres always goin to be a void when its not there no more!

I lost my mother a couple of yrs ago the my lil dog the yr after that - theres now a void that cant possibly be filled - because ive lost something i love very much..... the first thing i turn to is my music its always there for me and its always part of me.... its the closest thing to filling that void because its part of who i am.... I sincerely hope you reconsider Tony - its because of people like you who have inspired people like me! Itll never leave you

As you know I jacked it big style end of 92 and havent regretted it at all , the only thing just recently thats got me interested in things is OSA & Legends websites and the people on them still loving the good music. I wouldnt DJ in a mainstream club even if they did pay £20K but I keep thinking I must play for nothing at one of the underground events sometime as they are still buzzing Keep the day job and bang some tunes out now and then to people who will appreciate them I say..

From seeing you in action for us at In My House , to the decks at my house lol ..

My point is it dont matter where you are playing you get much pleasure out of it ..

You can still do everything you mentioned to me and still keep the music as part of your life im sure ..
