Hey there peeps. Just thought I'd start a thread asking for any valuable knowledge for learning how to scratch. It's something I've never been able to get the hang of on my own and was wondering if anybody could recommend some good guides, other than just searching at random.

Thaks for the help. :D

1) Learn how to rub your belly, and tap your head at the same time
2) Repeat this process four hours a day, for the next two years
3) Transfer your hands to the record and cross-fader

Job done Lol:D

I tried to do scratching for about 10 years, and could not get to grips with it:mad:

Spent a night over at Ben Fishers house about 3 years ago, and scrapped everything i knew about it. He then taught me how to baby scratch...This is just scratch with the record at first, and leave the cross-fader set in the middle. Try building a rhythm that way. It will sound bab at first, but after a few weeks, you will find you get a lot sharper at it.

After that try using the cross-fader to build and add to your styles. The reason i mention "Tapping your head, and rubbing your belly" is because that is what you have to do with scratching, both hands have to do two different things, at the same time.

A good tip is try not to take your hand on and off the record you are scratching with, this may sound weird, but you get a lot smoother sound if you do this, not so stabby then. Also try to remember it is the cross-fader hand that makes the most of the nice sounds, so try to experiment with different moves.

Next lock yourself in a room with decks, forget all your friends, social life, job and just practice, practice, practice

Hope that helps M:thumbsup:
